Singapore’s premier badminton tournament is set to thrill fans of the sport again this year! The Li-Ning Singapore Open takes place in the Lion City on 15 – 20 June 2010 at Singapore Indoor Stadium and the addition of global sporting giant Li-Ning as the title sponsor has given the competition a major boost.

Li-Ning has pledged $8.8 million to support the growth and development of badminton in Singapore, and the Li-Ning Singapore Open is expected to give young talented Singaporean athletes a chance to shine in a major international event right on their doorsteps.

The Singapore Open is also part of the Super Series events organized by the Badminton World Federation and will feature top shuttlers from around the world battling it out for prize money and ranking points.

SBA President and Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Manpower, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, believes the event will play a key role in developing the sport in Singapore. He said: “It is our common vision to bring the sport in Singapore to a higher level by hosting an international tournament that is joined by the world's best. Besides our youths, partner schools and clubs, we also hope to involve our corporate sector to develop badminton in Singapore"

Besides the welcome addition of Li-Ning as the title sponsor of the Singapore Open, SBA is also pleased to announce that the Singapore Open has been awarded the rights to host the Super Series event from 2011-2013. Li-Ning will thus be the title sponsor for one of the premier Super Series competitions for the next three years after 2010, a partnership that will certainly see the event, and the sport as whole, continue to grow in stature and importance, guaranteeing badminton fans and athletes in Singapore and the region top quality competition in the years ahead.

As part of the efforts to grow the sport among young Singaporeans, the preliminary rounds of this year’s Li-Ning Singapore Open will be offered free to children aged 2-12 years old.
